What is LED Light Therapy?

LED light therapy is a treatment that uses wavelengths of infrared light to cure skin issues or heal wounds. Initially developed by NASA back in the 90’s to help treat astronauts’ skin and bones when on lengthy missions to space where they had lack of natural sunlight, fresh oxygen and gravity. Thank you NASA!

So when they discovered that it delivered remarkable skin repair it was later established as a beauty device. Depending on the colour of the light used, your skin cells will respond differently.

For example, RED light promotes circulation, strengthens the cellular structure and boosts collagen production which helps reduce ageing spots and wrinkles. On the other hand, blue light kills bacteria thanks to the production of oxygen radicals and helps to fight acne, also promoting speedy wound healing. Finally, white light reduces inflammation, soothes irritation and fades hyperpigmentation in skin.

Put all three lights together, Red, Blue and White and you have yourself one outstanding Facial! One of the best things we love about this treatment is it’s effortless, there’s no commitment to “downtime”, no pain, no redness, no peeling and no flakiness as with some treatments.

This is a, put your ear pods in and chill kinda vibe, but still leave with refreshed glowing skin and carry on with your day.

How long does it take?

LED light therapy sessions last between 20-30 minutes and are performed 2 times per week, for 4 weeks, then it’s just maintenance from there on in. Usually a session every six weeks to top up that glow and rejuvenation or when needed.

Naturally, you can perform LED light treatments at home also, but in-clinic aesthetic treatments are far stronger and better controlled. Dermalux LED light is our choice of light to use in the clinic as it is of medical grade making this the Holy Grail of LED lights, if it’s good enough for renowned Facial Surgeons, then it’s good enough for our clients!

Really the answer to the question ” Who is it for ?” All skin can benefit from LED light Therapy! Who is this not suitable for? If you are on photosensitive medications or have light triggered seizures such as epilepsy, even though your eyes are covered, this may not be a suitable treatment, do consult with your doctor first.
